Located in one of the most important buildings in the city, the Vecchia Firenze restaurant has had its Art-Restaurant vocation since 1950; a place where traditional cuisine goes hand in hand with the historical and artistic experience.
To enrich this experience, in 1999, the contemporary painter Alfio Rapisardi (1929-2018) frescoed the rooms of the restaurant, giving them that unique touch of color and fascination. The works of Rapisardi – an eclectic and prolific artist – were exhibited all over the world.
From a very young age, he already entered the ateliers of the masters that will help him learn and create his own personal style. In 1956, one of his solo shows at the “Strozzina” in Florence received enthusiastic comments; in 1960 and 1962, he took part in the “Fiorino”. He also won the competition for the altarpiece of the new Scolopi church in Florence. His works are featured in art collections and selections, including the Kassel Foundation Museum where his works are displayed alongside those of great masters such as Gauguin and Cézanne, Picasso and Kandinsky. In 1969, millions of visitors had the chance to admire the Italian pavilion he set up at the Montreal World Expo.
